Born in Chennai, India, Arun Gopalan was brought up in Pune, India.

Having completed his schooling and college in Pune, he is back in Chennai pursuing his Post Graduate Diploma in Film and Television with Cinematography as his specalisation at the L.V.Prasad Film and Television Academy.

Though not from a ‛cinema background family‛, his initial quest to voice his concerns on various social issues like human rights, environmental degradation, etc. brought him into film school and subsequently into the world of ‛commercial cinema‛.

His latest projects as a Cinematographer include a one shot ten minutes long short film titled 'Home Sweet Home' shot on Super 16mm format with an Arri SRII followed by 'Ini Orru Vidhi Seivom'- a documentary on children shot on DVCam.

Cut.In Film Fest 2010, Mumbai organized

by the Tata Institute of Social Science.
